The Little Golfers!

Walker has been golfing for quite some time.  He seems to enjoy it and continues to improve.  We've tried and tried to get Everly to take lessons with him, but she pushed back.  But, finally, in her own time (typical Everly), she started weekly lessons.  I love that this is something they can do together!

And, seriously, they are the cutest golfers you'll ever see.

She's getting better and better.

And, she's officially a member of the Herridge Golf Academy!

Another exciting thing happened recently.... Walker played his first official nine holes with Daddy.  Clark says he played really well.  How fun that they can do this together!

Here's his first official scorecard:

Playing holes has helped him understand why he has to learn all the different shots and just for the record.... 64 isn't too shabby! Plus, Clark pays Walker every hole that he beats Daddy.  Great incentive!

A lot of people stop the lessons over the summer.  It is very hot, but so beneficial to continue.... classes were small and they both learned a lot.

This is one of my favorite pictures.... class was over, but they wanted to keep playing.

It's so fun to see some determination and tenacity out of these two.  It is going to be interesting to watch them continue to get better.  I feel confident that they will really push each other.  I hope that's a good thing.  The head coach says Walker is ready to start playing in some tournaments.  That's something that will be happening in the next few months.  How exciting!

Golf Camp for Two

Walker has continued playing golf all year.  It's been a great experience and he continues to improve.  One of the last classes before a little break, they all played several holes.  He did well!

When it was time for a little three-day camp, we talked Little Sister into it!

How cute is she!  Such a little natural!

The first day of the camp was the day before her birthday.  So, she decided she wanted some new clubs.  Thanks to Bunny and RayRay, she got some!

She love the purple and pink.

Yay Everly!  She will start the weekly class when the break is over! We are excited to have another golfer in the house.

Ryder Makes Everything More Fun

We all love it when Ryder comes to visit!  The day he got here we went to the Star Wars night at the Astros.

And, then he got to watch Walker's first basketball game.  (W scored!)

The boys played a lot of basketball, which was great for Walker!

And, we all had a great adventure at Top Golf.

They all three had a blast.  It makes me happy to see them enjoy golf.  And, I know Googie would love to see Ryder with a golf club in his hand!

Ryder got to stay 10 days this visit.  We loved every minute!

The Woods Who Golf

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this on the blog, or not.  Walker is getting pretty darn good at golf!  He's been taking weekly lessons this year and continues to improve.  So, for fun we decided on a family outing to Top Golf.  What a great time!

Everly is very good.  She's fighting lessons, but I will get that girl in them eventually!

Walker loved Top Golf and loves anything involving golf, in general.

And, of course, Clark hits the ball a mile!

Sillies…

The girls watching the boys!

Walker's junior golf program is like karate.  As you improve, you can take tests to try to get to the next level.  He started with a white hat… earned a yellow stripe, so then it was time to test for the yellow cap.  He was already done with driving. Next up putting.  He nailed one part.  He needed to get five out of ten in this circle around the hole.  These were his first five putts:

He did amazing.  A guy in the parking lot started yelling "wow, look at that kid! He has such a touch…. I've never seen anything like it!"  So cool.  BUT, he didn't make enough of the three footers.  So, it was time to practice:

Little sister had to be into it, too.

A few days later he passed!! (you had to get six out of ten in the hole.  He got eight out of ten) So, all that was left was chipping.  So we went to the course to practice.

And, success! A yellow cap!!!

Boy was he proud.  Watching him golf has been so fun.  He takes it very seriously, practices hard and continues to improve.  Since he got the yellow cap, he moved up to a more advanced group.  He LOVES it!

We joined the country club and wouldn't you know…. they started a women's clinic! Yep, Mommy is going to learn, too.  I've only been once, but I really enjoyed it.  Golf with the entire family!  I hope this means lots of memories to be made on the golf course!

Next Up? Soccer!

Okay, it's official.  Walker loves playing sports.  He really loves it when the next season begins.  He's been saying for months that he wants to play soccer.  So, we signed him up at the Y.  I'm not going to lie,  Walker is not aggressive.  He hardly went after the ball when he played basketball.  I was worried that soccer would be the same thing.  But, NOPE! That boy goes for the ball!  He plays great defense and isn't afraid to get in the pack and go after it!

He didn't score a goal, but his teammates did.  They won 7-0!!!

Happy boy!

Walker is also playing golf.  It's a weekly class at the country club near our house.  The coaches are fantastic and Walker is really enjoying it.  And, he's already making major improvements.  I love that he enjoys playing lots of different things.  We are thankful for seasons!  That way he can go from one thing to the next!

Golf Camp

You know what's fun about having grandparents who live in a golf course community?  Golf camp!  Walker was very excited to go to Bentwater Golf Camp for a second year.  When Bunny and RayRay asked if he needed new clubs, Clark and I said, maybe.  When we pulled out his old clubs, it was obvious they were WAY TOO short! So, thankfully they took him to Golfsmith and he got a new set of clubs.  Which meant little sister got a new (to her!) set!

How cute is this:

He was ready!  And, here's the handsome little man on the first day(and a bunch of other days):

One afternoon, we went to the driving range and I was SO impressed!  Wow, we have a little golfer!  He can hit it far and straight!

And, I have to include this picture because he's so darn cute! (and grown up!):

The last day, we got to go watch all the little competitions…. he was ready!

And, he did really well!

He was in the Nicklaus group and this is where he ended up:

Because he was in the top three in his group, he got to continue competing in the "overall" competition.  He didn't place in those, but he loved just being in it!  I was very proud of his improvement and effort!

And, I'm pretty sure he was proud of himself!

Golf is an awesome sport that we hope he'll love forever.  It's so fun to see him get better and enjoy it.

The Golfer

This video is from several weeks ago, but I finally got it uploaded to the computer.  WoodWords readers need to see our little golfer:

So proud that he enjoys golf and is getting better all the time!

The Future Golfer

I think we can officially call Walker a golfer.  He went to golf camp at Bentwater and really, really liked it!

I think he looks the part!

In the afternoon on the third day, they had "family day".  Clark took off work and came out to play two holes with him.  He played really well!

Once Clark got it on the green, Walker two putted for a "par".  Clark then missed his second putt and Walker quickly pointed out that he was better than daddy!  So precious.

RayRay was there cheering him on…

And, so were these two cheerleaders!

The next morning he graduated!

It was a great introduction to golf and it definitely got him interested in the game, which is what we were hoping for.

Thanks to Bunny and RayRay for sending him to golf camp!  I have no doubt that this will be the first of many more in the coming years.
