Community Classic

I can't believe I haven't blogged about Crossfit yet.  I've been going for almost a year and no blogs.  I'm sure Clark is very proud me of that lack of blogging.  He gets tired of hearing about Crossfit.  I know… it is annoying.  BUT, Crossfit is an exciting way to fitness and it's just a way of life.

Everyday is different and each and every day I'm pushed to a new challenge.  I'm doing things now that I would have never thought possible.  Hard core weight lifting.  Really?  Seems crazy.  I speak in weird jargon now.  Talking about double unders (jumping rope), the WOD (workout of the day), PRs (personal records) and maxing out.

Crossfit is as much, if not more, mental as it is physical.  It really has made me think about myself differently.  Of course, the ultimate goal is to be thinner and healthier, but it's also about being stronger. One of my coach's (Natalie) always tells me…. you're stronger than you think you are.  I feel like I'm slowly, but surely realizing that.

So, here's a look at weightlifting Deana:

That's not quite my back squat PR of 150 pounds… but, it's close.

Another AMAZING thing about Crossfit…. the friendships and community that I'm a part of.  I found an amazing friend in Sarah. We became fast friends and it's always fun to workout with a friend.  Especially one who pushes you!  And, it's not just Sarah.  Lots of friends, including our coaches.

One of our coaches has to have a hip replacement surgery.  He's 29 years old.  (His injury is due to a car accident years ago, NOT a Crossfit injury).  He has to travel to Denver for this surgery, so to help him with the cost, Crossfit Conore put on a competition to benefit Andrew.  I've never done a competition, but wanted to participate to help my coach.  My favorite partner and I signed up!

It was insanely intimating and scary, but Sarah and I pushed through!  We had two goals.  To NOT come in last and to beat the time cap.  I'm happy to report…. we met both goals!!  We came in more than three minutes under the time cap and we weren't last.

After:

And, here's something really cool.  I had my very own cheering section!!!!

How awesome is that!  Clark knew this competition was important to me, so he and the babes showed up to cheer me on.  (I may be putting words in his mouth, but I think Clark was impressed)

And, here's me and my partner with our favorite coach, Natalie:

Sarah and I really were proud of ourselves.  Again, pushing ourselves mentally and physically.

Next month will be my one year anniversary with Crossfit Conroe.  There are still so many things that I can't do, but there are so many things that I have accomplished.  It's exciting to think about what will happen in the next year!
